Ethiopian White Fire Opal. 6mm Gems Set in Sterling Silver Stud Earrings. Great,Near Full Spectrum Blue Shift Color Play & Scintillation.

Ethiopian White Fire Opal is one of the most valued of all East African Opals. This gem set is no exception. The gems are 6mm x 6mm rounds, set in sterling silver studs. The color play is very good and has a blue green shift. GemVal values this gem set at nearing $500 per carat and this set is about 1.6 carats total. We have obtained a decent quantity of this material, in anticipation of near future price escalation with the recent East African Coalition agreement w/ the BRICS Yuan Based Currency system to use the Yuan rather than the USDollar as the reserve currency and for int'l trade. This will raise all prices (i.e here in the USA) that had previously been done in $USDollars as the reserve currency. In the near future, we will need to buy this material in Chinese Yuan converted to USDs. So, the current price is probably once in a lifetime, inexpensive!!!!

Opal Mysticism and Lore:
Opal was first discussed by the ancient Roman historian, Pliny the Elder; he called in opulus. He and most other ancient scholars believed it to be the most mysterious and bewitching of all gems, and wore it for luck, healing and protection. They also wore opal when venturing into dangerous places.
Opal contains the colors and qualities of literally every other stone. It is thought to enhance psychic powers. Opals are worn during astral projection in order to protect the wearer and to facilitate the process. Opal is also believed to assist in recalling past incarnations: the opal is held in the hand, gazed at, with one’s attention moving from color to color until a psychic state is achieved and the wearer can use their mind to go into the past life. In the past opals were used to create invisibility by wrapping the stone in a fresh bay leaf and carrying it with the one who desired invisibility. Also thought to be the ideal gem to promote astral projection.

All of our stones and jewelry are based upon the GEMVal monthly gem value ratings ( so the buyer can rest assured that they are getting a fair price based on color, cut and gem availability world wide. All of our gems, both rough and cut, have been certified to our company as natural and of the nature as described. And, we perform a number of tests on both rough and cut gems we obtain in order to confirm their specs (e.g RI, spectroscopy, thermal conductivity testing) to the best of our ability and within reasonable error variance. We are a family owned business located in Knoxville, Tn, home of JewelryTV, but we have worldwide connections for obtaining the highest quality rough and cut gems for our clients, including East Africa, Thailand, Brazil, Columbia, Cambodia, China, India, and Afghanistan. See our website at for more info and gem education.

NOTE: Although beautiful, opal exhibits less hardness than many other gems. It has a Mohs hardness rating of 6, as compared to sapphire (9), topaz (8), and amethyst (7). As such, care must be taken when wearing it; don't remodel your kitchen or go swimming while wearing opal. Opal behaves like a 'living gem,' that can absorb liquids in which it is immersed, causing color deterioration.
